Military Exposure to Asbestos
If you have served in the military, especially the Navy, you may have been exposed to asbestos. Asbestos products have been used extensively in all branches of the military, most prevalently during the huge shipbuilding efforts throughout World War II and into the 1980s. As recently as the Iraq war, military personnel and defense contractors were exposed to asbestos.
Goldenberg Heller & Antognoli are familiar with the unique needs of veterans and how to recover the necessary compensation for their injuries. We are proud to represent countless veterans who risked their lives to serve our country only to later discover that very service led to their disease. We have more than 30 years of experience handling asbestos cases, working efficiently to avoid delays, and we pride ourselves on achieving prompt results for our clients.
Dangers of Asbestos Exposure
When asbestos is damaged, it releases invisible asbestos fibers that can attach to the membranes of lungs and other internal organs. Over time, this can cause the rapid production of cancerous cells in the mesothelial membrane that lines most of our organs.
Most exposures come from inhaling asbestos fibers in the air. This can occur during the mining and processing of asbestos, during the production of materials and products containing asbestos, or when installing insulation. Exposure can also occur when older buildings are demolished or renovated, or when older asbestos-containing materials begin to break down.
Asbestos fibers can also be swallowed when people consume contaminated food or liquids, such as water that flows through asbestos cement pipes or when people cough up asbestos they have inhaled, and then swallow it with their saliva.
Goldenberg Heller & Antognoli’s extensive database of military-related asbestos defendants, cases, and evidence helps our clients identify when and where military asbestos exposure occurred. We can help military veterans and their families obtain just compensation in a wide variety of asbestos-related disease and condition claims.
